Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said he will appoint new service chiefs within his first week in office if elected president in 2027.
Obi disclosed this during an exclusive interview on ARISE News while outlining his proposed approach to tackling insecurity in Nigeria.
The former Anambra State governor said security would be one of his immediate priorities, with the appointment of new service chiefs among the first decisions he would take after assuming office.
“I will appoint new service chiefs in the first week,” Obi said.
He also said he would personally visit areas affected by insecurity alongside the newly appointed service chiefs to assess the situation and ensure security personnel intensify operations in the affected areas.

“I will move with those new service chiefs to the location where insecurities happen and ensure the security comb the bush,” he said.
Obi has consistently identified insecurity as one of Nigeria’s major challenges, with terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes disrupting communities and economic activities across the country.
He said his proposed approach would involve stronger leadership and direct engagement with communities affected by insecurity, rather than relying solely on reports from security formations.
The NDC presidential candidate is campaigning ahead of the 2027 general election and has continued to outline his plans for addressing the country’s security and economic challenges if elected.
