2027: Coalition must be party-to-party, not individual arrangement — Obi

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said he is open to forming a coalition with any political party committed to making Nigeria work, but insisted that such an alliance must be negotiated through political parties rather than individual politicians.

Obi stated this during an exclusive interview on ARISE News while discussing the possibility of opposition parties working together ahead of the 2027 general election.

The former Anambra State governor said his political offer to Nigerians was centred on building a functional country, stressing that he was prepared to work with any party that shared that objective.

“What I am offering to Nigerians is a Nigeria that works,” Obi said.

He said the door remained open to a coalition with political parties that genuinely wanted to address Nigeria’s challenges and improve the lives of citizens.

However, Obi ruled out an arrangement in which individuals would independently negotiate or join a coalition outside their political platforms.

According to him, any coalition arrangement must be conducted through his present political party.

“Coalition must come through the party as a body and not my personal decision. This is one of the things I want to change in Nigeria,”he said.

Obi’s position comes amid ongoing discussions among opposition politicians and parties over possible alliances ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
