Enugu State Government has engaged ANAMMCO Vehicle Company to remanufacture 50 decommissioned city buses from the defunct Coal City Shuttle Service.
Speaking yesterday at the formal handover of two new pick-up trucks to the Ministry of Transport, Benneth Ejindu, Chief of Operations at ANAMMCO Motors, commended Governor Mbah’s commitment to transforming the transport sector and hailed the move as a major boost for local industry.
He explained that the 50 buses were remanufactured to augment the fleet of newly acquired CNG-powered city buses.
“These buses, which initially arrived at ANAMMCO in scrap condition, were restored to state-of-the-art operational standards,” Ejindu said, noting that the project showcased ANAMMCO’s technical capacity and its determination to support Enugu State’s transport development.
He added that the restoration was carried out in partnership with China’s Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Co, Ltd, aligning with Mbah’s broader plan to grow Enugu’s economy to $30 billion through industrialisation, massive infrastructure deployment, job creation and human capital development.
Uche Okeke, executive director, Corporate Services at ANAMMCO, disclosed that the company donated two brand-new pickup trucks to the Enugu State Ministry of Transport to aid in terminal inspections and monitoring of bus operations.
“These pickups will serve a vital role in ensuring proper oversight, operational efficiency and improved customer experience for passengers across the transport network,” Okeke stated.

While the first batch of buses for the scheme was supplied by Zhongtong Buses of Asia, ANAMMCO’s rebuilt units significantly cut costs, created local jobs and provided hands-on technical training for Enugu youths.
“With this project, the Governor breathed new life into the state’s mass transit infrastructure, strengthened local economic activity and enhanced the technical skills of our workforce, especially among young people in the automotive sector.
“We remain committed to advancing Enugu’s transport infrastructure and mobility goals through locally produced vehicles and technical training,” the company said in a statement.
Responding on behalf of the government, the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Obi Ozor, represented by Iphie Ugonabo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transport, praised ANAMMCO for its support, especially the donation of the two pickup trucks.
Ugonabo assured the company of a long-term partnership and an enabling environment for transport businesses to thrive, stressing that Mbah’s strategic integration of ANAMMCO into the new Enugu transport management system reflects his vision of engaging indigenous firms to deliver projects at “supersonic speed” for the benefit of the people.
She further recalled that the Governor had, last week, inaugurated five ultra-modern transport terminals across the state, in line with his integrated blueprint for a modern, multimodal transport ecosystem.
