Two persons suspected to be members of a gang of armed robbers believed to be responsible for a series of house-to-house robberies in Asaba and its environs in Delta State have been arrested.
One of the suspects, Ozuluonye Okonkwo (21) was arrested in the Koka area of the state capital, and his confession led to the arrest of his partner in crime, Joseph Anukwu.
Public Relations Officer of the state police command, SP Bright Edafe who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, said operatives were on the trail of the fleeing leader of the robbery gang.
Edafe further confirmed the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, one Ebube Osakwe (32), adding that the suspect and his gang members (now at large) “carried out a kidnapping in Egu-Agbor and took their victims to Akoko-Edo area in Edo State where they usually collect ransom before releasing their victims.
“Further investigation also revealed that in their last operation, they collected N2.500,000 from their victims. Efforts to arrest the other members of the gang are ongoing.”
Besides, Edafe said operatives arrested a 62-year-old suspected drug dealer, David Ikama during a stop and search duty along Kwale/Ogwashi-Uku road.
He said operatives intercepted the white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number FST 210 XD driven by the suspect, and conveying passengers from Onitsha to Warri.
According to him, when the vehicle was searched “some bags loaded with suspected illicit drugs namely 1,266 bottles of codeine syrup, 604 tablets of tramadol, 54 tablets of Swinol, 90 sachets of Rohypnol were recovered.
“The suspect, David Ikama, was arrested and taken into custody while the investigation is ongoing.”
