Pressured by a growing players’ revolt and interest by the Super Eagles, Mali have begun moves to reappoint Eric Chelle after he was sacked as coach last month.

A players’ revolt has hit Mali after several stars including Amadou Haidara (RB Leipzig), Mohamed Camara (Monaco) and Modibo Sagnan (Montpellier) announced they will not play for the national team until the suspension of captain Hamari Traore was quashed.

Traore was suspended by the Mali federation after he openly criticised them for the chaotic build-up leading to a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Madagascar.

SCORENigeria further learnt that the military Junta in Mali has stepped into the row between Chelle, who has now been shortlisted for the Super Eagles post, and the country’s FA after the coach was sacked in June following a scoreless draw with hosts Madagascar.

It is now left for Chelle to decide if he will return to his former post.
