Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has announced plans to dualise the road from Ajia Junction on Ife Road to the Nigerian Air Force Base currently under development in Ajia.

The governor made this known on Friday during an on-the-spot inspection of the Air Force Base project. He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and emphasized the government’s commitment to completing infrastructure projects that support security and development.

Conducted around the facility by Air Vice Marshal Kolade A. Ademuwagun, Air Officer Commanding, Logistics Command, Nigerian Air Force, Ikeja, and other top officers, Governor Makinde also revealed that the connecting road from the base to the Airport Road would be constructed as a single carriageway.

Speaking to journalists during the inspection, Makinde said: “You can see that the Nigerian Air Force Base in Ajia is now a reality. We are here to assess the infrastructure and readiness of the base for operational use. Key decisions have been made — the road from Ife Road junction to the base will be dualised, and we will likely begin that process immediately. The stretch from the base to Airport Road will be a single carriage.”

He also indicated that the base is expected to be ready for commissioning between late May and early June, aligning with the Nigerian Air Force’s anniversary celebrations.

On the timeline for the road project, the governor stated: “I’m giving them about six months to complete it. The hydraulic structures are already in place; what’s left is finishing the stone base and laying asphalt.”

Governor Makinde was accompanied by the Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. William Akin-Funmilayo; the Senior Executive Assistant to the Governor on General Duties, Chief Bayo Lawal; and other senior government officials.
