The Peoples Democratic Party has taken a swipe at the Federal Government, saying the recent bombings in Maiduguri lay bare what it described as the ruling party’s failure to tackle Nigeria’s worsening security crisis.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the opposition party said the attacks, which left at least 23 people dead and more than 100 injured, were a grim reminder of the country’s fragile security situation.
The statement, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, argued that the incident was part of a broader pattern of violence that has escalated under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“The recent multiple bombings in Maiduguri… are another incontrovertible piece of evidence of the inability of the APC-led federal government to curb the growing insecurity in the country,” the party said.

It further noted that insecurity, which was once largely restricted to the North-East, has now spread to other parts of the country that were previously considered relatively safe. “Sadly, 11 years later, insecurity has not only increased significantly… it has spread almost uncontrollably to many other parts of the country,” the statement added.
The PDP also accused the government of prioritising political interests over national security, stating, “Despite this glaring failure, the APC-led Presidency has devoted more time, energy, and resources to the task of political genocide against the opposition… instead of… combating the growing insecurity that has become the lived reality… of Nigerians.”
While commiserating with the victims and their families, the party called on the Federal Government to move beyond rhetoric and adopt a more inclusive approach to security, urging engagement with community leaders and stakeholders to prevent further attacks and restore confidence in the nation’s safety architecture.
