RIVERS State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has described the late High Chief O. B. Lulu Briggs as a worthy philanthropist who used his wealth to bless the less privileged in the society.
Speaking during a codolence visit to the family of the deceased, Wike said the late High Chief made very quality contributions to the development of Rivers State.
The widow of the de- ceased, Mrs Seniye O. B. Lulu Briggs, and other members of the family received the governor during the visit. “God gives and God takes. As we come, so we came, so we shall leave. What is important is the con- tributions that we make to the society. God blessed him and he didn’t use the blessing for himself alone. He used the blessing for the society, Wike said
The governor said during his quest to govern Rivers State in 2014/2015, he consulted the deceased, noting
that he supported his development blueprint. He said: “He was a man that helped the less privileged. Everyone attests to the fact that he was a giver. I have seen the scholarships that he awards to the people.”
Wike said that as a politician under the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN), the late Lulu Briggs was committed to the ideals of development. He gave the assurance that the Rivers State government would actively participate in the burial ceremony of the late elder statesman.
Responding on behalf of the family, daughter of the deceased, Mrs Solate Ovunda Akarolo, thanked the governor for leading a high- profile delegation to condole with the family. She said that the family had started missing their patriarch, adding that they would inform the state government about the burial programme at the appropriate time.
