In a moving ceremony steeped in gratitude and recognition, members of Lions Club International, District 404-A3, Region 6, Ikorodu, Lagos State, gathered to pay tribute to some of their most outstanding and dedicated leaders.
The occasion, titled “Handing Over Ceremony and Award Presentation to Distinguished Lions,” served as both a transition of leadership and a heartfelt celebration of selfless service to humanity.
Held in a vibrant atmosphere filled with warmth and emotion, the event honoured club presidents, zone chairpersons, region executives, secretaries, and other leaders who have gone above and beyond during the 2024/2025 Lions Year.
These individuals were recognized for their unwavering commitment to humanitarian service, community upliftment, and transformative leadership.
Throughout the Lions Year, the awardees led various impactful initiatives across Region 6, organising free medical outreaches, facilitating education support programmes, distributing food and relief materials, and executing sustainable community development projects.
Many of these efforts were aimed at supporting underprivileged populations, including the elderly, widows, orphans, and low-income families.
One of the key highlights of the ceremony was the outpouring of admiration and respect from colleagues, community members, and beneficiaries of the Lions’ numerous programmes.
Testimonials highlighted how these leaders were not just figureheads but hands-on changemakers who brought compassion, creativity, and drive into every initiative they led.
“Their passion for service goes beyond the call of duty. They don’t just lead with words, but with action and heart. They show up in rain or shine, wherever there is need, they are there,”a fellow member reflected.
Outgoing Region Chairperson, Lion Adefunke Esan, delivered a powerful farewell address that echoed both appreciation and encouragement.
She praised all the club presidents, zone chairs, and members for their dedication and resilience throughout the service year.
“I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together. The strength of our community lies in the commitment of its leaders,” Esan said.
She urged all awardees to continue their legacy of service, emphasizing that the real reward lies not in the accolades but in the lives touched and the hope restored.
Also speaking at the event, Zone 6B Chairman, Jamiu Adetubo, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Lions Club members who supported the administration during his tenure.
His words reflected a deep sense of fulfilment for having led a team devoted to selfless giving and impactful service.
Zone 6 A Chairperson, Oluwakemi Okusanya, commended the tireless efforts of club members in responding to societal needs.
“Your unwavering dedication has brought hope to the hopeless, and your compassion has made real differences in people’s lives,” she noted.
Region Secretary, Lion Muhammed Oyebanjo, also shared his appreciation for the teamwork and commitment that defined the service year.
“It has been a memorable journey because of the incredible people I had the privilege of working with,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of others clubs’ president, Hon. Basirat Banjoko of Igbogbo Platinum Lions Club delivered a rousing tribute to Esan’s leadership.
She highlighted Esan’s visionary approach, calm demeanor, and consistent support as key factors in the year’s success.
“She led by example, with a kind heart and a clear focus on service. We are better leaders today because of her,” Banjoko remarked.
