Life Support Foundation recently empowered no fewer than 600 widows in Lagos. The women were drawn from different locations in Lagos, especially the Assemblies of God Church, Lagos.
Each year, since 1999, the foundation has been giving gifts to widows. But this year, it took a different dimension as the women went home with mosquito nets and N10,000 each, unlike other years where gifts, such as bags of rice, clothes, wrappers and cash were given to the beneficiaries. However, the women never appreciated this but preferred cash to enable them buy more items for sale in their business.
The programme featured praises to God and testimonies from the beneficiaries, such as Mrs. Ruth Joseph, who testified that today she is a landlady because she was not idle after her husband’s demise.
Rev. (Mrs.) Edith Mpamugo said God gave her the vision in 1996 and she responded. She expressed her gratitude to God for giving her the opportunity to give back to the society, through the foundation.
Besides the gifts and other things they do in the foundation, it is also supported by their American partner, who was present this year to see the women face to face.
She also advised the widows never to stay idle even now that their husband are alive but be fully engaged with anything that would benefit them even when their bread winners passes on.
She expressed gratitude to her family members, supporters from abroad whom she described as the people who gave the greatest part of the items given out this year, including previous years.
Mpamugo also called on government to come to the aid of widows, noting that most of them need just a small amount of money to set up their own businesses and take care of their family.
The women poured encomiums on the founder, Life Support Foundation, who is the wife of the former Lagos District Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church.
