The Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSPAL), has commended the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas and the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, in opening up the House to the citizens.
CoSPal, in a statement by its Secretary General, Dapo Oyewole, lauded the the House leadership for the second Open Week, with the theme “Deepening Citizens’ Trust and Participation: Celebrating Our Journey as the People’s House”, organized by the Green chamber, which held last week.
Oyewole, while commending the House for demonstrating commitment to citizen-centric governance, said “when the legislature is accessible, transparent, and accountable, democracy is preserved and strengthened.”
He stated that the initiative aligns with CoSPAL’s values, and expressed confidence that it will inspire other parliaments across Africa to foster greater trust and participation in legislative institutions..
