Lebara launches nationwide, targets self-service telecom market

Lebara Nigeria has commenced commercial operations nationwide, introducing what it describes as Nigeria’s first fully self-service customer onboarding experience in the telecommunications market.

The new digital-first Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), which is licensed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), said its service is designed to provide affordable and reliable voice, SMS and data services while giving customers greater control over how they connect and manage their mobile services.

A major feature of the launch is self-service Know Your Customer (KYC) registration, which allows prospective subscribers to complete their verification from home through the My LebaraNG application without visiting a physical store.

Customers who prefer face-to-face assistance can, however, visit Slot stores nationwide, where Lebara Nigeria agents are available to assist with onboarding.

The company said subscribers can choose between physical SIM cards and eSIMs, giving customers greater flexibility in accessing the network.

Lebara Nigeria also said its mobile bundles have been structured around what it described as the changing needs of consumers, with features including transparent usage tracking, cloud storage, Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) options for eligible devices and access to LebaraPlay, its mobile entertainment platform.

The company said the objective is to provide customers with clearer information about their usage and reduce unexpected charges.

Commenting on the launch, Lebara Nigeria said the network was built around a digital-first and software-led model that enables it to focus on customer experience and service delivery without relying on the traditional asset-heavy model associated with mobile network operators.

As an MVNO, Lebara Nigeria operates through existing telecommunications infrastructure while providing services to customers under its own brand.

The company said the model would enable it to concentrate on addressing challenges around network reliability, service gaps and the cost of data.

Customers interested in joining the network can download the My LebaraNG application through the Google Play Store or Apple App Store or access the company’s website to begin the onboarding process.

The company is also inviting Nigerians interested in becoming distributors to register through its website.

Lebara Nigeria expressed appreciation to the NCC for its regulatory support, as well as its agents, distributors and other partners involved in the rollout.

The launch adds another player to Nigeria’s increasingly competitive telecommunications market, where operators are under growing pressure to improve service quality while making connectivity more affordable and accessible.

Lebara Nigeria is part of the London-headquartered Lebara Group and describes itself as a Tier 5 MVNO.

The company said its Nigerian operations would focus on delivering voice, SMS and data services nationwide through a software-led, asset-light approach.

With its emphasis on self-onboarding, eSIM adoption and digital management of services, the company is positioning itself to appeal to consumers who prefer to complete telecommunications transactions through their smartphones rather than physical outlets.

Its launch slogan is: “The Network for Sabi People.”
