LCC passes no-confidence vote on IMB

The Lagos Country Club (LCC), Ikeja, has passed a vote of no confidence on its Interim Management Board (IMB) constituted by the Registered Trustees of the club and subsequently dissolved it

This was done by the members of the club at an Extraordinary Ordinary General Meeting (EGM), jointly convened by Lekan Saka-Bello and Francis Ofordu, on Thursday.

The trustees had recently suspended the management council and constituted an IMB to carry on with the duties and functions of the elected officials as provided by the constitution of the club.

However, the EGM presided over by Adewole Gege, insisted that the trustees had no powers under the constitution of the club to suspend an elected management council of the club and inaugurate an IMB without the consent, approval and ratification of the members at a duly called general meeting.

Members noted that the constitution and inauguration of the IMB was an imposition on the members, declaring the action as unconstitutional and illegal, and of no effect

Part of the seven-point resolution, which received the approval of the majority of the members, read: “The trustees of the Lagos Country Club have no power under the constitution of the club to suspend the management council that was duly elected by the members.

“The trustees have no power under the constitution of the club to suspend the management council of the LCC and inaugurate as a replacement, an IMB, to carry out the duties and functions of the management council as provided by the constitution of the club.

“The trustees have no power to suspend the management council of the LCC and inaugurate as a replacement, an IMB, to carry out the duties and functions of the management council as provided by the constitution of the LCC without the consent, approval and ratification of the members of the club at a duly called general meeting for the same purpose.

“The constitution and inauguration of the IMB amounts to an imposition on the members and the club, contrary to the provisions of the constitution relating to the constitution of the body responsible for the day-to-day management of the club, and is, therefore, unconstitutional, illegal, and null and void.

Members, however, passed a vote of no confidence on the IMB and dissolved it, passed a vote of confidence on the management council and resolved that all pending petitions and litigations did not have the support of the members of the club and should be withdrawn without further delay.
