London’s art scene witnessed a vibrant celebration of Nigerian creativity as Nigeria Magazine, represented by Kede Aihie, hosted an evening of poetry, art, and performance featuring Lanre Sonde at Lambeth Archives, Brixton Hill.

The event highlighted the depth of Nigerian artistic expression and the growing influence of African creatives in the global arts community.

Guests from several countries including India, Saint Kitts, Spain, Italy, Colombia, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom gathered to experience a fusion of culture, rhythm, and storytelling. The gallery space came alive with conversation, emotion, and reflection as visitors connected through a shared appreciation for poetry and visual art.

A standout moment of the evening was Lanre Sonde’s live performance of his acclaimed poetry series Sonder with Sonde. The collection explores human connection and the intricate ways lives intersect. Sonde’s expressive performance drew powerful reactions, encouraging the audience to reflect on identity, empathy, and collective experience.

The showcase also featured striking visual collaborations with artists Ovie Mac Solomon, Omotayo Ambali, and Yemi Sonde. Their works complemented Sonde’s poetry with dynamic imagery and layered symbolism, creating a seamless dialogue between word and art.

Speaking at the event, Kede Aihie, representative of Nigeria Magazine, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to promoting Nigerian artistry worldwide. He emphasised that events like this build cultural bridges and celebrate the diversity of Nigerian voices across continents.

For Lanre Sonde, the London performance served as both reflection and celebration. It reaffirmed his role as a leading Nigerian poet and creative voice whose work continues to inspire audiences globally. Through the blend of poetry, art, and emotion, Sonde’s message remained clear: Nigerian art thrives not only at home but wherever stories of humanity are shared.
