Land grabbing allegation, attempt to tarnish my image –Owoeye

By Lukman Olabiyi

Renowned Estate Consultant, Alhaji Mutairu Owoeye, has vowed to seek redress in court over some online publications accusing him of being a land grabber.

Owoeye, who described the publications as a smear campaign against his personality, said there was no iota of truth in it, but outrageous falsehood.

A report published by an online medium had alleged that Owoeye attacked Itori, Ewekoro, a community in Ogun State, and destroyed people’s properties.

The report alleged that Owoeye launched a brutal attack on Kayode Falola, the Baale of Adunbun community, and that he had the backing of an influential monarch, the Olu of Itori Kingdom, Oba Fatai Akorede Akamo. But, Owoeye, in a statement issued at the weekend, said the allegation was a figment of imagination, describing the writer as a desperate alarmist, who is notorious for tarnishing people’s image through unverified and unsubstantiated stories.

Owoeye denied the allegation of having the backing of the Olu of Itori Kingdom, Oba Fatai Akorede Akamo, and warned the writer to desist from tarnishing the image of a respected traditional ruler. He stated that security operatives from Abuja, who investigated the matter, discovered that he has all necessary documents for the land he purchased in the community, and absolved him of any wrongdoing.

The statement, therefore, warned the writer and his co-travellers that failure to stop their mischiefs could land them into trouble, as necessary legal action would be taken against them.

He said: I bought the land directly from the original owners. I did not encroach on the land in Onigbedu and Elere as alleged in the false publications.

“I, Alhaji Mutairu Owoeye, will not take something that does not belong to me. I am a law-abiding citizen. I like to appeal to the good people of Ogun State and its environs, and other people that might have read the purported story, to know that the allegations are untrue. Also, I want to assure our able governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and the law enforcement agencies that I am not in any way involved in land grabbing, and I was not hired to invade any community with firearms or whatsoever, or deprive anybody access to their farmland.

“I bought the land from the rightful family that owned it, and they appended their signatures in the receipts given to me as evidence of payment. The assertions in the publications are false, spurious and preposterous. And I invite the general public and law enforcement agencies to ignore the cheap antics organised by desperate characters to tarnish my reputation.”
