Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu  marked the 74th birthday of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with the distribution of 20,000 food packs to residents across Lagos State, alongside a personalised open letter urging continued support for the administration’s reform agenda.

The symbolic distribution ceremony held on sunday at De Blue Roof Event Centre, Agidingbi, with similar exercises held simultaneously across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

Beneficiaries included community leaders, women, youths, and religious groups, with additional distributions carried out at places of worship such as the Chapel of Christ the Light and the Central Mosque in Alausa.

Top government officials, including the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and the Special Adviser on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Tajudeen Afolabi, attended the event alongside representatives of various groups across the state.

In the open letter read on his behalf, Sanwo-Olu described Tinubu as an “extraordinary leader” and called on Lagos residents to celebrate his life and achievements while reaffirming their commitment to what he termed a journey of national rebirth.

He noted that while Nigerians have endured the pains of ongoing reforms, there are early signs of progress, expressing optimism that “the worst is behind us, and the best is in sight.”

He also urged citizens across different sectors and communities to sustain their support for the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The governor further praised Tinubu’s legacy as former governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, crediting his administration with laying the foundation for the state’s current economic strength.

Speaking at the event, Omotoso described the occasion as significant for both Lagos and the country, noting that the initiative was designed to allow residents participate in celebrating the President while benefiting from a welfare programme.

He added that representatives from various communities were deliberately included to ensure the palliatives reached a broad spectrum of Lagosians.

Afolabi, in his remarks, said the distribution reflected the state government’s commitment to supporting residents, describing the gesture as a “gift of Renewed Hope” tied to the President’s birthday celebration.

Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as timely in view of prevailing economic challenges, while pledging continued support for government programmes aimed at improving citizens’ welfare.
The event also featured prayers for the nation and for the President’s continued strength and success in office.
