The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has busted a baby factory at Okuju, Ilado, Road 1, Zone 1 area of Olorunda, Badagry, Lagos.

The State Commandant, NSCDC Lagos State Command, Adedotun Keshinro, at the weekend disclosed that the command’s operatives in the Badagry axis, during a strategically mounted surveillance which lasted three weeks, eventually smashed the baby factory in an overnight operation between Wednesday, April 15 and Thursday, April 16, at Okuju, Ilado, Road 1, Zone 1 area of Olorunda.

In a statement, the Civil Defence Public Relations Officer (CDPRO), Lagos State Command, SC Oluwaseun Abolurin, explained that Keshinro said the renewed charge of the Commandant General, NSCDC, Ahmed Audi, to all state commandants to deploy technology-driven intelligence towards combating criminality across the country has begun to yield immediate positive results, particularly in the Lagos State Command.

“He disclosed that the overnight operation, which was successfully carried out by the command’s operatives in Badagry, resulted in the immediate arrest of two suspects linked to the operation of the baby factory in the aforementioned house.

The victims were allegedly deceived through a Facebook account dedicated to the recruitment of pregnant women willing to sell their babies to interested buyers after delivery for between five hundred thousand (N500,000) and one million (N1,000,000) naira.

“The operatives also rescued 28 victims from the crime scene, including 17 heavily pregnant women, one male adult, and 10 children, including infants (names of suspects withheld).

“Preliminary investigation also revealed that one of the victims lost her pregnancy as a result of the unhealthy environmental condition she was exposed to, just like others.

“Items recovered from the crime scene include one pumping machine, one generator set, six standing fans, two gas cylinders (12kg and 6kg respectively), one burner, two large cooking pots, five Android phones, four large mats and assorted food items.

“The Lagos State Commandant has condemned the dastardly, inhumane and barbaric act often perpetrated by some desperate members of society in the guise of making money through crooked means.

“The suspects and victims have been taken to the office of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for proper handover and further investigation into the crime. He assured the general public that the culprits will be duly brought to book.”
