Lagos monarch decries persistent flooding in Iwaya

Flooding

The Olu of Iwayaland in Yaba area of Lagos State, Oba Suleiman Owolabi, has decried persistent flooding in Iwaya and its suburbs.

He called on the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, to help find an urgent and lasting solution to the perennial flooding in the town.

The monarch said this during an inspection of the community’s environmental condition, conducted alongside with the commissioner.

He referenced a recent tragic incident in which some children were swept into a canal in Olaboye Olalere area following a downpour.

He said the canal had collapsed, resulting in the loss of the children.

He stressed the importance of Iwaya town as a community hosting institutions like the University of Lagos, Yaba College of Technology, Federal College of Education (Technical) and Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC). Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu also worships at the Mountain of Fire Church near Iwaya.

Lamenting that the previous governments’ promises did not materialise, he appealed to the commissioner to address the issue with urgent dispatch.
