Lagos State Government has compiled another list of over 280 property owners and occupiers in the Mayegun Waterfront Scheme, located in the Eti Osa Local Government Area of the state , that will be served with contravention notices over alleged encroachment on government land.
The state’s Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Yacoob Ekundayo Alebiosu, announced that the property owners and occupiers would be given a seven-day ultimatum to present documentation and approvals that justified their land occupation.
Alebiosu stated that a recent inspection carried out by his team, identified over 280 properties in various stages: completed, under-construction, and undeveloped; that have encroached on government land.
In a statement ,the ministry’s Director of Public Affairs,Dupe Ileyemi, over the weekend, said the commissioner has instructed a detailed technical assessment of the scheme to quantify the extent of encroachment.
The assessment revealed that of the 280 properties, 208 are under construction, and 72 are undeveloped plots.
Alebiosu urged property owners to voluntarily remove their structures before receiving formal contravention notices.
The Mayegun Waterfront Scheme, established in the 2000s, is divided into three sections: Parcels A, B, and C.
The current focus is on Parcel B, which contains a mix of gazetted village excisions, valid certificates of occupancy, and encroached properties.
Alebiosu stressed that the government would not tolerate illegal land occupations, citing a recent case in Okun Ajah, Eti Osa LGA.
He warned that similar actions in the Mayegun area will be met with strict enforcement measures.
“This unlawful activity must end. The state government will no longer condone or accept encroachments on its properties. We are addressing issues in Okun Ajah and will take similar actions in Mayegun.
“Appropriate steps will follow the issuance of contravention notices,” Alebiosu stated.
Last month, the state government also served contravention notices to over 200 property owners in the Òkun Ajah Waterfront scheme for similar violations.
