Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr Adegoke Fayoade, has read the riot act to cultists and other criminal elements to leave the state or have themselves to blame as the arms of the law will soon visit them.
The CP gave the warnings to cultists and other criminal elements to quit the state or regret their actions as his mission to the state was to flush out criminal elements, especially cultists.
He said that three high ranking members of cult groups have been arrested in Ikorodu area of the state in the last five days.
Fayoade confirmed the arrest during his interaction with Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) at the state command headquarters .
He said three were arrested on Tuesday, while four were arrested on Thursday at different parts of Ikorodu, adding that arms and ammunition were recovered from them .
He said that cultism, traffic robbery and kidnapping were some major crimes he was going to tackle headlong.
Fayoade, who solicited the support of CRAN, stressed that the media personnel were part of his eyes and ears in getting feedbacks and other information.
He said he was also partnering the judiciary with a view to ensuring that arrested criminals were kept away for a long time.
“We are really fighting cultism. One of my major agenda in Lagos is to fight cultism, traffic robbery and kidnapping; these are the prominent cases we have in the state.
“We are partnering with the judiciary so that any of them arrested will be taken off the society for long so that others can learn.
“The Command Complaint Response Unit (CRU) would be more empowered and strengthened to take more complaints because I know that we are going to have more complaints this season.”
He added that the DPO are in office to serve the members of the public and they must be submissive and their office should be conducive and make people to be well attended to.
“The enforcement of Okada will be more aggressive this time because most crime are committed with Okada.
On the issue of land grabber, Police do not have anything to do with investigating land ma5tter, we only act as peace makers so as to avoid loss of lives. I will talk to my officers on this and we will ensure that we distance ourselves with land grabbers because we don’t have any business with it.
“We are working very hard to eliminate cultism in the state and I realize that the capacity of Divisional headquarter there is not enough, so I have created a tactical unit where more than fifty members have been deployed into the fight against cultism. They have taken off already and I know that they will get rid of cultism very soon.
We are also looking at Ikorodu where we are already making progress; No 1,2,3of their leaders have been arrested we are still going to tackle every one of them. I will ensure that Cultism becomes a thing of the past in Lagos.
The police boss said he would be transparent in his operations, stressing that no officer would be spared in any wrong doing.
Fayoade said he would ensure that his officers and men carry out their duties professionally and requested that members of the public should give him information on any unprofessional conduct.
He called on Divisional Police Officers to ensure that they would make their stations conducive for all to make report/complaint when necessary.
On commercial motorcyclists, he said there would be strict enforcement than before, stressing that some of them were part of the security challenges in the State.
The police boss warned his men and officers against land issues, as it was a civil matter, nothing, however, that those who would want to cause trouble through land matter would be dealt with.
