The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with cybersecurity firm ESET Nigeria, has concluded a cybersecurity awareness and capacity-building programme for staff of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as part of efforts to strengthen digital security across the state’s public sector.
The training, held at the Staff Clinic Hall, Alausa, Ikeja, was themed “Cybersecurity in 2026: Defending Against Modern Threats in a Digital Workplace.” It brought together government personnel from various MDAs to equip them with practical knowledge on emerging cyber threats and effective security practices.
Participants were exposed to current cybersecurity challenges expected to shape the threat landscape in 2026, including artificial intelligence-driven attacks, deepfake-enabled fraud, advanced phishing schemes, ransomware, identity theft, cloud security vulnerabilities and supply chain compromises.
The programme featured interactive lectures, case studies, scenario-based discussions and practical sessions aimed at improving participants’ ability to identify, prevent and respond to cyber threats in the workplace.
Speaking during the training, Strategic Partnership Manager and Cybersecurity Awareness Evangelist at ESET Nigeria, Mr. Olabanji Soledayo, stressed the growing importance of human awareness in combating increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks.
He noted that while organisations continue to invest in security technologies, employees remain a critical line of defence against cyber threats.
Soledayo also commended the Lagos State Government for its longstanding partnership with ESET in promoting cybersecurity awareness and resilience.

The event featured technical sessions covering email security, endpoint protection, ransomware defence, threat detection and other cybersecurity practices relevant to government institutions.
Also speaking, Deputy Director at the Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Kadri Shamusideen, described cybersecurity awareness as an essential component of public service delivery as government services continue to undergo digital transformation.
According to him, the increasing digitisation of government operations has heightened the need for employees to understand and respond appropriately to evolving cyber risks.
“While technology provides the necessary security controls, employees remain the first line of defence against cyber threats. Continuous education and awareness are therefore essential in ensuring that staff can identify emerging threats and respond appropriately,” he said.
Shamusideen described the training as timely and relevant, noting that cyber threats are becoming more complex and sophisticated. He also commended the strong participation from various MDAs across the state.
He added that strategic collaboration between government institutions and cybersecurity industry stakeholders remains critical to strengthening national cyber resilience.
ESET Nigeria said the programme forms part of its broader commitment to helping organisations improve cyber resilience through awareness initiatives, education and advanced cybersecurity solutions.
The company noted that as cybercriminals increasingly deploy artificial intelligence, social engineering tactics and identity-based attacks, employee awareness continues to be one of the most effective safeguards against modern cyber threats.
