President Bola Tinubu is set to intervene in the ongoing crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly over the impeachment of the erstwhile speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
Daily Sun learnt from reliable sources close to the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership that though no decision has been taken on the matter, President Tinubu felt he was blindsided by the decision of the lawmakers to impeach Obasa and was keen to ensure that the situation does not escalate.

Daily Sun was told that he would meet with the state lawmakers, the impeached speaker and other major stakeholders this week to resolve the lingering issues that led to Obasa’s impeachment.
Obasa, who represents Agege constituency, was impeached on January 13, 2025, by the majority members of the Assembly over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office while he was away in the US but on his return to the country, he held a press conference where he insisted that his impeachment didn’t follow due process. He alleged that the lawmakers used a fake mace to install Mojisola Meranda and that many policemen invaded the Assembly on the day of the impeachment to intimidate his loyalists, invaded his official residence and prevented members of his family in the house from coming out. He then said he would fight their actions in court.
But the lawmakers reacted to Obasa’s statement, saying that his impeachment followed due process and insisted that Meranda is legally the Speaker, because, according to them, her election is constitutional. The Assembly asked the residents of the state to ignore the former speaker, warning him not to heat up the polity.
