The Executive Council of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Lagos Chapter, during the week, paid a courtesy visit to The Sun Newspapers as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the Guild and the media.

The delegation was led by Ikubuwaje Funmilayo Mary Edward, acting chairman of the chapter, alongside Cornel Udofia, public relations officer; Prince Tunde Shado, financial secretary; and Eberechi Obiorah, welfare officer.

Speaking during the visit, Edward commended The Sun for its contribution to the growth of the Nigerian entertainment industry, noting that the media plays a critical role in shaping public perception and supporting the creative economy. She said the purpose of the visit was to establish a stronger working relationship that would promote professionalism, highlight actors’ achievements, and support Nollywood’s continued development, especially as Lagos remains the hub of Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

The AGN Lagos leadership also requested regular coverage of the chapter’s activities, feature stories on actors both veterans and emerging talents, and media support for the promotion of Guild events, awards, community projects, and capacity-building initiatives. Key issues raised at the meeting included positive image projection for Nollywood, balancing sensational reports with developmental stories, advocacy against piracy and unethical practices, and partnerships for workshops, talent discovery, youth empowerment, and strategic sponsorship.

Both parties explored the possibility of special industry projects such as a monthly Nollywood/acting column, industry-focused interviews, and commemorative features documenting the growth of Nigeria’s film industry. The visit ended with appreciation to The Sun Newspapers and a pledge by the AGN Lagos Chapter to sustain a long-term relationship built on partnership, unity, professionalism, and positive storytelling.
