Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Africa Plc, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, has reaffirmed the commitment of the leading Nigerian building solutions company to quality education, community development, and heritage preservation.
He made the assertion during the commissioning of the remodelled and upgraded Christian Pelamourges Memorial Baptist Day Nursery and Primary School, Agbesi, Ewekoro, Ogun State, as well as the unveiling of the rehabilitation and preservation of the Independence Memorial Obelisk at the iconic Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos.
The comprehensive remodelling and upgrading of the school included refurbishment of classrooms, extension of the Head Teacher’s office, and construction of new dining and toilet facilities.
Alade-Akinyemi, stated that the initiative reflected the company’s commitment to advancing education as a key driver of sustainable development.
“At Lafarge Africa, we believe that quality education is one of the most powerful tools for building the future of children,” he said.
The company also donated 2,000 copies of Mathematics textbooks to the Ogun State Government to support student preparation for their Senior School Certificate Examination.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Ogun State, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu, said: “We appreciate Lafarge for this global standard facility, which aligns with the state’s rehabilitation pillars.”
The Chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Evangelist Joshua Ifede, and the Head Teacher of the school, Mrs Ayoola Oluwaseunayo, thanked Lafarge Africa for the gesture . They described the project as a global standard upgrade.

In another development, Lafarge Africa has restored the historic Independence Obelisk at the iconic Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, as part of its commitment to sustainability and preserving national heritage.
Minister, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, noted that preserving historical assets like the Obelisk is essential to nurturing a culturally aware nation, particularly now that Nigeria is placing greater focus on the intersection of history, innovation, and sustainable development.
Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu represented by the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, stated, “The Obelisk stands as a powerful symbol of heritage and sustained development, reflecting the strength of our diversity and the enduring hope of the Nigerian people.”
Managing Director, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lucia Shittu said: “As the site where the Union Jack was lowered, it holds deep historical significance and continues to inspire national pride and reflection.
