The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Education (OSSAP-TVEE) to support the Ministry’s Labour and Employment Empowerment Programme (LEEP), aiming to achieve its target of creating 2.5 million jobs.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the ministry’s Spokesperson, Patience Onuobia, on Friday.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, stated during the event in Abuja that the collaboration aims to bolster employment opportunities and skill development in Nigeria, with a particular focus on youth and women.

 

She revealed that the collaborative effort between the Ministry and OSSAP-TVEE will prioritise vocational, technical, and entrepreneurial skills essential for Nigeria’s economic advancement and expansion.

The minister added that the partnership aims to fulfill the President’s 8-point agenda on job creation, fostering innovation, enhancing productivity, and bolstering competitiveness in the global marketplace.

Onyejeocha said: “The Ministry is dedicated to providing the necessary assets and infrastructure to support the training and certification of participants in this programme.

“We recognize the importance of a skilled workforce in driving innovation, productivity, and competitiveness in the global market. With the support and expertise of the Office of the Senior Special Assistant, we are confident in our ability to achieve these ambitious goals.”

The Minister expressed appreciation to Ms. Abiola Arogundade, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education, and her team for their collaboration and reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to the success of LEEP.

She described the partnership as a significant milestone in the journey towards enhancing employment opportunities and skill development in Nigeria.

According to her, the partnership is also expected to yield remarkable results and set a new benchmark for public sector collaboration.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Education (OSSAP-TVEE), Abiola Arogundale, stated that the collaboration had the potential of boosting the percentage of highly skilled persons in Nigeria.

She added that the collaboration would aid the ministry in achieving its mandate of creating opportunities for jobs and generating employment.
