The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the Homicide section of the FCID Abuja to embark on a detailed and comprehensive investigation into the alleged killing of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Kwara State, which occurred on September 4.

Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed this in a Monday statement.

It was learnt that some police officers killed Ishola, an ND2 Electrical and Electronic Engineering department student along Panat-ShopRite road, a notorious hotspot for police extortion and harassment.

In a press briefing on Monday, the Student Union Government (SUG) of the institution had given the police a 48-hour ultimatum to unveil the identity of the murderous officers and conduct an open investigation.

The Union’s President, Comr. Saheed Olalekan Ishola noted that the trust of the entire Kwara State Polytechnic Students in the police to do a diligent and thorough investigation could only be regained by the Kwara Police Command if the erring officers were unveiled via a well-publicised police parade.

In Monday’s statement, the police said the officers involved in this incident have been identified as Inspector Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Emmanuel, and Sergeant Oni Philip, attached to the Department of Operations, Kwara State Command and they have been consequently detained for investigation.

“The Inspector-General of Police who is deeply saddened by this unfortunate event that has led to the loss of a young Nigerian, expresses his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.

“He acknowledges the profound grief and loss caused by this unfortunate act and reassures the family and members of the public that justice will be served,” Adejobi said.
