Construction of the multi-million naira Vocational and Computer Training Centre in Idera kingdom, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, is nearing completion and is expected to be ready for commissioning in December 2024.
The project, funded solely by His Royal Highness, the Onidera of Idera kingdom, Oba James Oladipo Buremoh, through his Ladi Tiger Rural Development Foundation, aims to transform Idera kingdom and provide employment opportunities for its youth. The project has also received support from cabinet members and friends at home and in the Diaspora.
Speaking at the 20th anniversary of his ascension to the throne, Oba Buremoh expressed his initial apprehension upon becoming king in 2004 but credited the success of his reign to the support of his cabinet members, family, friends, and chiefs at home and abroad. He highlighted his achievements during his 20-year reign, including providing portable water, infrastructure, renovating the dispensary and classrooms, and constructing new classrooms through counterpart funding with the state government.
“I don’t see myself as your king, but I see myself as your servant,” Oba Buremoh said. “I will continue to give my all for the rapid development of Idera kingdom and its environs. That was the specific instruction the Almighty God gave me before ascending the throne of my forefathers and I will not deviate from it. So, wherever you people want, send me.”
Oba Buremoh commended the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for the support Idera kingdom has received from his administration, particularly the construction of their road. He further requested additional infrastructure and internet services to boost the local economy and curb rural-urban migration.
The monarch emphasized the importance of peace for development, stating that “there can never be any meaningful development in an atmosphere of rancour, bickering and bitterness.”
During the inter-faith prayer session, Pastor Oyinloye of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Idera, and the Chief Imam of Idera, Alhaji Wahab Ibitoye, commended Oba Buremoh’s selfless service and thanked God for his vision, grace, direction, and divine provision for the success achieved so far.
Biyi Gbadeyan, in his tribute, praised Oba Buremoh’s dedication to community projects, highlighting his personal involvement in tasks such as digging, shovelling, and clearing land. He expressed admiration for the king’s humility and dedication to serving others despite his international acclaim and recognition as a former world champion.
Chief Olufemi Owolabi, the Otun Balogun of Idera, representing the 20 Chiefs in the Diaspora, lauded Oba Buremoh’s efforts and promised to encourage further support from his colleagues.
The anniversary celebration included the cutting of a cake made by students of the Ladi Vocational Training Centre and the distribution of financial assistance to 62 widows by Princess Omowumi Ojo, represented by employees of her foundation.
