Unidentified gunmen have reportedly killed six people in Ilesha Baruba, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, leaving the community in mourning.
The assailants, dressed in military-style uniforms, stormed the town around 9:30 p.m. via Ilorin Road, firing indiscriminately at residents. Local sources identified the victims as two Baruba and four Fulani men.
Eyewitnesses described the attack as sudden and terrifying, with one resident stating, “This is heartbreaking. We don’t feel safe anymore. They looked like soldiers. That’s what makes it even more frightening.” The attackers’ identities and motives remain unclear, raising fears of possible impersonation.
A community leader said, “We need peace and protection. We cannot live in fear.”
The attack has sparked panic, with residents demanding a thorough investigation and increased security presence. The Kwara State Police Command, informed at 11:30 p.m., contacted the local Divisional Headquarters to assess the situation.
Police spokesperson DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed that investigations are underway to apprehend the perpetrators, stating, “An investigation has been initiated, and full security measures have been implemented to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.”
