The Lagos Office of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea has donated digital office equipment to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) as part of efforts to support the agency’s modernisation drive and enhance service delivery at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA).

The donated items include 15 desktop computers and monitors, 10 laptops, 20 printers, and five photocopiers.

Speaking during the ceremony in Lagos, the Consul General of the Republic of Korea, Lee Sang Ho, said the initiative marked the first donation project undertaken by the Lagos Office of the Embassy in collaboration with the NIS, a federal agency with which Korea has maintained a cordial and mutually beneficial relationship over the years.

According to him, the donation aligns with Nigeria’s ongoing modernisation efforts, particularly around key national infrastructure such as the MMIA. He described the airport as one of the busiest transport hubs in West Africa and the largest aviation gateway into Nigeria, noting that its capacity and significance are expected to increase in coming years.

Lee stressed that the purpose of the donation is to strengthen the operational capacity of the NIS MMIA Command through improved access to modern ICT tools. He said the equipment would help ease office workload, enhance digital processing, and ultimately support seamless service delivery for all travellers, including Korean nationals arriving or departing from Nigeria.

“This donation consists of requisite digital office equipment such as computers, laptops, photocopiers, and printers,” he said. “It is aimed at ensuring that the NIS MMIA Command is further equipped to keep up with the government’s renovation and expansion initiatives. We hope it will enable more efficient services and contribute to a better travel experience for passengers.”

He added that the gesture carries symbolic significance, reinforcing the broader diplomatic ties between Korea and Nigeria and reaffirming Korea’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

In his remarks, the Assistant Comptroller-General and Zonal Coordinator for Zone A Headquarters in Ikeja, ACG E. L. Anugwa, expressed deep appreciation for the Korean government’s continuous support to the Nigeria Immigration Service. He described Korea as a reliable partner whose contributions have been instrumental to the Service’s technological advancement.

Anugwa acknowledged that NIS operations had recently experienced delays due to ongoing technological upgrades. However, he assured that the modernisation initiatives, designed to align NIS services with global standards and best practices, were progressing steadily.

“Some setbacks occurred during the transition phase, leading to temporary production gaps, but the Service is already addressing these issues,” he said. “I am confident that by the end of next month, the current challenges will be resolved.”

He further emphasised that the donated equipment would not be limited to the MMIA Command alone. According to him, the Zone A Headquarters took responsibility for receiving the items so they could be distributed to other commands with pressing needs.

“Your support will go beyond the airport command,” he assured. “We will ensure that the donations are shared among other units and commands under the zone to ease their operational challenges.”

Anugwa also conveyed appreciation on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Immigration, K. N. Nanatep, assuring the Korean government that concerns affecting Korean nationals and businesses in Nigeria would continue to be addressed promptly and professionally.

“We thank you, and we assure you of our continued cooperation,” he said. “The NIS and the Nigerian government are very grateful.”

The event further strengthened diplomatic goodwill and renewed commitments to deepening Nigeria–Korea relations, particularly in areas of technology, aviation, and service efficiency.
