Britain’s King Charles III will proceed with his planned state visit to the United States despite the shooting that disrupted the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington.
Buckingham Palace said the King was greatly relieved that President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and other guests escaped unharmed during Saturday night’s incident.
“The King and Queen are most grateful to all those who have worked at pace to ensure this remains the case and are looking forward to the Visit getting underway tomorrow,” the palace said.
Charles and Queen Camilla are due to begin their four-day visit on Monday, less than 48 hours after the attack at the high-profile media gala.

The visit, designed to celebrate the long-standing ties between Britain and the United States as America marks 250 years of independence, will include stops in Washington and New York.
During the trip, Charles will become the first British monarch since Queen Elizabeth II in 1991 to address a joint session of Congress. The royal couple will also meet Trump and Melania at the White House and attend a state dinner.
British officials said security agencies from both countries were working closely to ensure the visit proceeds without disruption.
The trip comes at a sensitive moment in transatlantic relations, with tensions over the Iran conflict and other diplomatic issues hanging over what is expected to be a closely watched visit.
