The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has stressed the need for the training of women to position them for better performance in the transport sector, especially the aviation industry.
The Minister, who was represented by Mrs. Obiageku Orah, the Public Affairs and Consumer Protection Department of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), stated that women inclusion in the transport industry, including air, road, rail, and water modes, would lead to rapid technological advancement.
Noting that the sector had been dominated by men, he stressed the need for more inclusiveness.
He made the submission at a conference held in Lagos with the theme: ‘Mindset Plus Skillset: Championing Inclusive Agenda for Women in the Nigerian Transport Industry’ organised by the Global Transport Policy (GTP) Women in Transport, held in Lagos.
He said: “The transport sector is multifaceted and demands unique skill sets. Policymakers must recognise the heterogeneity of our society and ensure that women are given equal opportunities to contribute and thrive,” Keyamo said.
