Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on Thursday, engaged with José Bamoquina Zau, the Angolan Ambassador to Nigeria, and his deputy, Nelson Paulo Kafikiri to cement aviation ties between Nigeria and Angola.
According to Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser to the Minister on Media and Communications, the Angolan delegation provided optimistic updates regarding their nation’s aviation sector, particularly emphasizing recent advancements in airport infrastructure.
Ambassador Zau shared exciting news about Angola’s new airport, which is poised to become a crucial regional hub. He announced that the airport’s official inauguration is scheduled for the coming month. Representing Angolan Transport Minister Ricardo de Abreu, Zau extended the Minister’s warm regards and highlighted Angola’s enthusiasm for deepening its collaboration with Nigeria.
The Angolan officials expressed a keen interest in establishing a bilateral air services agreement and exploring other mutually advantageous opportunities within the aviation sector. Additionally, Ambassador Zau extended an invitation to Minister Keyamo to attend the grand opening of Angola’s new airport, reinforcing the spirit of partnership between the two nations.
In response, Minister Keyamo commended the Angolan government for its notable progress in aviation infrastructure. He expressed his gratitude for the visit and confirmed his intent to participate in the inaugural event. Keyamo reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to collaborate closely with Angola to improve air connectivity and uncover new business prospects.
To ensure effective coordination for the upcoming event, Minister Keyamo has established a technical committee.
This committee will work with the Angolan Embassy’s team to manage logistics and finalize plans for the Minister’s visit, as well as to explore potential areas for cooperation.
The meeting highlights both nations’ ongoing commitment to expanding their aviation sectors. It marks a significant step towards a stronger and more fruitful relationship between Nigeria and Angola, focusing on enhancing connectivity and fostering economic growth through aviation.
