Kebbi State Governor Dr Nasir Idris has pledged to further enhance workers’ welfare in the state.
Speaking at the Workers’ Day celebration on Thursday, May 1, at Haliru Abdul Stadium in Birnin Kebbi, Idris noted his administration’s achievements, including implementing the ₦75,000 minimum wage, clearing pension and gratuity arrears, and completing the State Secretariat. As a former labour leader, he vowed to do more to uplift workers.
He urged workers to remain hard-working, perseverant, and dedicated to ensure state progress, stating, “This administration would do more for the workers of the state.” Earlier, Kebbi State, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairman, Murtala Usman, praised Idris for the ₦75,000 minimum wage, consistent salary and benefit payments, pension clearance, and promoting gender equity.

“As we commend these efforts, we also humbly request that your administration remains committed to human capital development, deeper involvement of workers in governance,” Usman said.
Usman called for unity to overcome economic hardships, adding, “Let us rise above the current economic hardship, knowing that our unity and collective voice remain our most powerful tools for change. Together, we shall reclaim the civic space, safeguard our rights, and build a society rooted in justice and inclusion.”
He noted the NLC’s achievements under his leadership, including protecting workers’ rights, engaging constructively with the government, ensuring inclusive representation, and maintaining active participation at the national NLC level.
