The Air Component of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, has neutralised over 18 terrorists and destroyed key logistics hubs during a precision air interdiction at Tumbunma Baba in the Tumbuns area of Borno State.
The operation was conducted in the early hours of Friday, the military said in a statement.
According to the statement signed by Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, the mission was built on credible intelligence gathered over the past weeks indicating the presence of high-profile terrorist elements converging at meeting and logistics nodes within the islands.
The intelligence was reportedly validated through further surveillance by the Theatre Command, with confirmatory Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions commencing on Wednesday, September 9.
Goni said the ISR pinpointed several terrorist structures and logistics hubs within the location, confirming that the area was being used as a terrorist gathering and support base.
The military spokesman disclosed that following positive identification of the targets, air platforms acquired and engaged the designated locations with precision munitions.
Ground troops of Sector 1, Operation Hadin Kai simultaneously occupied all likely escape routes for further direct fire engagements.

The air strikes successfully destroyed the targeted structures and neutralised over 18 terrorist elements.
The military said the operation dealt a significant blow to terrorist activities in the area by disrupting their logistics and degrading their ability to use the enclave as a gathering and support base.
A post-strike assessment indicated an estimated 85 per cent success in achieving the intended operational objectives.
The outcome, the military noted, underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations, timely ISR confirmation and the coordinated employment of air assets in synergy with ground troops.
“Working in concert with all security agencies and stakeholders, OPHK will continue to conduct intelligence-driven operations to deny terrorist elements the freedom to operate, regroup or establish logistics and support infrastructure across the Theatre,” the statement reads in part.
The military also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible and timely information to security forces to support ongoing efforts to identify and disrupt terrorist activities across the North East Theatre.
