…as former students of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Enabo, others donate cash, vehicle to ASUP

The Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris has advocated for all Nigeria Polytechnics to be awarding Masters and PhDs degrees for it’s students to further enhance technologies and vibrant economy of the country.

Idris, stated this during fund raising/ week of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic,Birnin Kebbi chapter at their 9th National Conference held at the institution.

The Governor, represented by the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar,noted that other developed countries in Europe, America, did the same which made them to be above other nations in the area of technologies.

According to him, ” I am personally interested in the academy activities of this nature because as a teacher,I believe the future of our country lies on a very strong education. So,I believe that our Polytechnics with the mandate of producing higher middle manpower for the nation also have the potential,desire by our quest for the economic development through the use of science and technology management.

 

“We must also focus on Nigeria’s Polytechnics, some countries in Europe and America, their Polytechnics are producing masters up to PhDs in degrees. Given the enormous qualified human and mineral resources at our disposal,our Polytechnics can also strife to do the same if given the opportunity.

“This will add energy to our struggle to achieve technology advancement of our dear nation”,.

 

Idris also call upon all the former students of the institution to return home and contribute towards the development of the polytechnic, stressed that his administration would be ready to collaborate with the institution in the area of training and retraining of teachers at the primary and secondary schools.

He disclosed that his administration whole priority is education, as just constituted Board of Councils for all the tertiary institutions in state ,said,they comprises of men and women of integrity,with the mandate to put in their best, knowledge, patriotism and dedication.

The Governor however donated N20 million on behalf of the government to the institution, N5million personally as the former student of the institution, while the Deputy Governor,who represented him donated N2 million for the development of ASUP,Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic chapter.

In his remark,the Rector of the institution,Dr Usman Sani Tunga who spoke on the theme of the conference, “skills acquisition as the solution to insecurity and unemployment in Nigeria; the role of Polytechnic”, advocated the usage of technologies to tackle insecurity in country,stressed that no nation could developed without advancement in the modern technologies.

 

Tunga who commended the State Governor and other invited guests for their support,also invited the Kebbi State Government to collaborate with the Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic Birnin Kebbi for capacity building of teachers in Primary and Secondary schools respectfully.

He added that Nigeria must emulate Asian tigers, Malaysia,China and others which utilised the usage of modern technologies to improve their agriculture, insecurity and economy.

Earlier,the immediate past Rector of the institution and present Kebbi State Commissioner of Religion Affairs, Arch. Muhammad Sani Aliyu who also spoke on the theme of the conference, noted that the Polytechnics in the country must provide accurate practical, workshops, laboratories, operational machines,relevants tools and equipment for the students to excel and change the narrations in the technologies innovation.

 

He reminded the lecturers that they are under the oaths by their employers to mentor students and ensure that they achieve their desire goals.

During the fund raising/ launching,the Chairman of Kebbi Pilgrims Welfare Agency,Alhaji Faruku Musa Yaro Enabo,a former student of the Polytechnic donated about N4 million on behalf of himself, friends and associates, a car to the Union while others personalities at the occasion like Accountant General of the State,Alhaji Bello Ibrahim Amiru,Alhaji Ibrahim Bagudu,Hon. Bello Dallatu Kaoje and others donated to the fund raising.
