The Kebbi State government has distributed the first phase of relief materials to 9,100 victims affected by the 2022 flood disaster and the most vulnerable persons in the state under the Federal Government Special National Economic and Livelihood Emergency Intervention.
About 22,202 beneficiaries are targeted for the first, second, and third phases of the intervention.
While flagging off the first phase of the intervention at Bulasa in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Nasir Idris announced the formation of a committee that would ensure that the items reached the targeted beneficiaries in each local government area.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Senator Umar Abubakar, said each committee would be headed by the Commissioner in the local government or the Special Adviser in the absence of the Commissioner.
The Governor urged the beneficiaries to use the materials judiciously. While declaring that the items were free, he cautioned the committee members and other stakeholders not to divert the intervention.
The Governor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Director General of NEMA for their commitment to cushioning the people’s hardship.
Earlier, the Director General of NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Habib Ahmed who was represented by Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf explained that 660,884 households were verified for the intervention across the country in which 22,202 households benefitted in Kebbi State. He urged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the items in order to improve their socio-economic conditions.
