Katung, Shehu Sani, Yero win APC senatorial tickets in Kaduna

Senator Sunday Marshall Katung has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kaduna-South Senatorial District primary election, defeating former Senator Danjuma Tella Laah and  Michael Auta in a keenly contested exercise held across the eight local government areas of the district.

The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. John Laah of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, announced the results at the collation centre at the Jema’a Local Government Secretariate on Monday, declaring the exercise free, fair, and peaceful.

According to him, the election was conducted across Kagarko, Sanga, Kauru, Zangon Kataf, Kaura, Jema’a, Jaba and Kachia local government areas, with delegates casting their votes for the three aspirants.

Sunday Marshall Katung polled a total of 7,453 votes, Danjuma Tella Laah, who scored a total of 1,370 votes, while Michael Ayuba Auta came third with a total of 878 votes:

Prof. Laah, while announcing the final figures, commended party stakeholders, security agencies, and delegates for ensuring a peaceful and orderly process across the senatorial district. With the result, Senator Katung has secured the APC ticket to represent Kaduna-South Senatorial District in the forthcoming general election.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the announcement of the results, the Executive Chairman of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Joseph Bege Gaiya, described the outcome as a true reflection of the wishes of the grassroots.

He said the conduct of the exercise and the eventual outcome demonstrated the strength of internal democracy within the party, stressing that the process had further reinforced public confidence in the political direction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the area. Gaiya expressed confidence that the local government would deliver massive support for Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, Governor Uba Sani, and all other candidates of the party across the various levels in the next general elections.

According to him, the people of Zangon Kataf remain committed to the development agenda of the present administration, noting that the overwhelming participation and outcome of the primaries reflected a collective desire for continuity, stability, and improved governance.

He further urged all stakeholders and aggrieved aspirants to close ranks in the interest of unity, adding that reconciliation would be key to strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The people have spoken through a transparent process, and we must all work together to ensure victory for our party at all levels,” he said.”

Also, Samira Jibrin announced the Kaduna Central Senatorial elections. She said Shehu Sani scored 9,105 votes to emerge winner. Other contestants,Yusuf zailani scores,1,021 while Shettima Yerima who withdrew from race scored,1,253 votes.

Addressing journalists in his Kaduna home,  Shehu Sani thanked President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani for their unflinching support.

“There is no better representation of the people of Kaduna State than me being their lawmaker and Uba Sani being the governor”.

He also thanked his constituents for given him the chance to represent them for the second time.

“I also thank Yerima Shettima for stepping down from the race. And those who did not step down, we should join hands to move the party forward.”

He noted that there are so many things confronting the nation, poverty, unemployment etc. the National Assembly is a pillar of democracy I will go there to see that in a way my people are represented by bringing federal presence to my constituency.

The former governor of Kaduna State, Ramalan Mukhtar Yero also won the APC  ticket for Kaduna North senatorial district.

Yero defeated other contestants with 6,060 votes. The other contestants, Muazu Mukaddas  scored 1,044, while

Engineer Bala Ikara scored 362 votes.
