The Kano State Government has settled the sum of N4.5 billion in pension liabilities owed to the Pension Funds Trustee in the state.

A statement, issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Ibrahim Adam, said the settlement of the indebtedness completes the takeover of 324 housing units located in Kwankwasiyya, Amana, and Bandirawo cities from the Pension Funds Trustee.

The statement added that the houses would be handed over to the Kano State Housing Corporation (KSHC) for onward management and sale to interested buyers.

“The payment was made through the Kano State Housing Corporation, thereby unlocking the housing units for proper utilisation, while ensuring that pensioners’ entitlements were fully protected,” the statement held.

Speaking during the handover, the Managing Director of the Housing Corporation, Abdullahi Rabiu, said the Corporation was committed to providing and maintaining habitable housing units for Kano’s rapidly growing population.

He described the takeover as a major turning point in the state’s housing delivery framework.

At the event, the Chairman of the Pension Funds Trustee, Habu Mohammad Fagge, formally handed over the houses to the Managing Director of the Kano State Housing Corporation.

He noted that the transfer was made possible after the administration cleared the backlog of pension fund liabilities.

He expressed optimism that the Housing Corporation would ensure effective management of the estates and restore them to their intended purpose.
