Kano State chapter of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), has sent forth wives of retired police men in the state.
The event, which utook place at the police officers mess, Bompai Kano, featured the presentation of gifts and well wishes by the leadership of the association
The chairperson of the association, Aishatu, and wife of Kano state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Usaini Gumel, said that they had concluded plans to train 173 widows in life sustaining skills.
According to her, the association is to partner with a Lagos based Non Governmental Organisation ELS Empowerment to float the skills acquisition scheme.
She described the celebrants as, POWA’s prominent elders who performed so well, during their tenures, at both state and national levels.
She further stated that: “My key desire is to keep empowering our members, especially, the less privileged ones,” while calling on the executive members to start identifying and bringing the needed empowerment programs that can bring ease the hardship of their members
“To the glory of Almighty Allah as at today, a reasonable number of this category have filled forms and are potential receivers of some goats and rams palliative fro. the State Government’s intervention” she disclosed.
“I am using this opportunity to say that, ‘what you all labored for can never go in vain,’ and I believe that the size of the shoes you left behind are too big for our legs but we shall keep trying,” she stated.
The O/C Gender of the police Loveth Jomoh, described the elders and eminent members of the association as mothers of the Command, while enjoining wives of all police officers in the Command to join the association.
According to her, “they have served our nation. Their husband’s have served our nation. And they have retired. It has to be so, and you can not change it.
“I love POWA, and I thought I was going to be a member when I joined the police, but unfortunately, I later got married to a civilian, but by my position, I have always been with them and I have no regret about it. Any wife of a police officer who is not a member of POWA is missing.”she stated.
