Kano-Maradi railway project reaches 61 percent completion – Minister

The Minister of Transportation, Senator Sa’id Ahmed Alkali has said that Kano to Maradi Standard gauge railway line project has reached 61% percent completion.

He also disclosed that the ongoing construction of Kaduna to Kano standard gauge railway line has attained 53% completion while fund has been secured for rehabilitation of 61 kilometres section of Port-Harcourt to Maiduguri narrow gauge railway line.

Alkali, made these disclosures recently during a 2-day interactive session organised by  Sir Ahmadu Bello Foundation in Kaduna.

He told the audience that the federal government has commenced plans to support light rail projects in the northern region starting with Kaduna to Kano.

He noted that the project is being supported through the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) adding that the the Port-Harcourt to Maiduguri project runs through Aba, Enugu,

Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Plateau, Kaduna, Nasarawa, and Benue state.

According to the minister officials of the ministry just concluded citizens-government engagement with communities along the 1,443 kilometer Portharcourt eastern narrow gauge railway project.
