Kano State House of Assembly has expressed objection to the contentious Tax Reform Bills initiated by the executive arm of government.

The bills, which have been raising strong emotion across the country, have scaled the 2nd reading in the Senate while its debate in the House has been moved to a yet-to-be announced date.

Majority Leader of the House, Lawan Husseini during the sitting on the house had raised a motion of ‘urgent public importance,’ while he stressed the need for lawmakers from the region and the Conference of Speakers reject the bills

He insisted that the bills, as they are currently constructed, were against the people of the North, adding that they were a calculated plan to sabotage the economy of the region, aggravate hardship among its people and encourage insecurity in the region.

“The pattern or arrangement in those bills by which VAT will be distributed across the states is worrisome because some states will suffer” he emphasized.

Murtala Kadage, a member representing Garko Constituency in the state similarly urged his fellow legislators to unite against the passage of the bills in the interest of the people they represent.

The House, in its resolve, urged members of the Senate and House of Representatives, especially those from the North as well as the Conference of Speakers to act swiftly to prevent the passage of the bills.
