Kano govt sets up judicial commissions to investigate political violence, missing persons, misappropriation of public assets during Ganduje administration

From Desmond Mgboh, Kano

The Kano State government has inaugurated two Judicial Commissions of Inquiry to look into cases of misappropriation of public properties, political violence and missing persons in the state between 2015 to 2023.

While the Commission on political violence and missing persons is headed by Justice Zuwaira Yusuf, the Commission on misaappropation of public properties is chaired by Justice Lawan Farouk.

Speaking at the occasion held on Thursday at the Government House, Kano, the Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf observed that the idea to set up both Commissions was part of his inaugural pledge to the people of the state.

Specifically, he charged the commission on misappropriation of public assets to identify those behind the act of misappropriation of state assets within and outside the state, especially during the last administration.

On the political violence and missing persons from 2015 -2023, Abba observed that political violence was a major setback to democracy across the globe adding that it leads to loss of lives and property and breeds mistrust between the people and their leaders.

“The disturbing cases of political killings, especially in 2023 in the state must not be swept under the carpet. This is to ensure we prevent future occurrences,” he added.

“We expect you to work hard to unravel the criminal network behind the killings and unmask their sponsors to face justice” he charged.

While observing that the Commissions were neither political nor targeted at any particular individual, Abba charged their members to remain faithful to their oaths of office.
