From Desmond Mgboh, Kano
Security operatives in Kano State have uncovered a plot to unleash terror and mayhem in the state, following the ongoing chieftaincy dispute.
The announcement was made by Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, on behalf of the Joint Security agencies working in the state, during a dawn press conference.
Gumel revealed that they had received credible intelligence about a plot to incite trouble and protests in the state. He stated that the planned attacks targeted specific areas, including the State House of Assembly, Kofar Naisa, Brigade, and Airport Road.
The Commissioner, flanked by the Director of the Department of State Security Service in the state, assured the public that security agencies are prepared to handle the situation.
“The intelligence has been verified and we have the capacity to deal with the miscreants. We have perfected plans to embark on a security patrol along those areas where we were informed that the enemies of the security and the state are hiding,” he stated.
Gumel disclosed that security agencies will conduct house-to-house searches to apprehend anyone involved in the plot, emphasizing that no one is above the law.
He appealed to parents and guardians to advise their children against participating in any protests, warning that the law will deal ruthlessly with the plotters.
In response to the threat, security arrangements have been intensified in the state, with the deployment of additional Mobile Police personnel by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Gumel confirmed that adequate officers have been deployed to the four other sacked emirate councils in the state, where the situation remains relatively calm.
Regarding the ongoing chieftaincy dispute, the Police Commissioner reiterated that security agencies will uphold the court order and enforce it accordingly.
He urged residents to continue their daily activities without fear, assuring them that the security situation is under control.
