Kano: Buhari ally Kwamanda charged, remanded in prison

An ally of former President Mohammed Buhari and a frontline political commentator in Kano State, Abdulmajid Danbiliki Kwamanda, has been remanded in prison by a Kano Magistrate Court situated at Non–Mansland area of the state.
The Court remanded the accused, late Tuesday evening, and adjourned the case to the 29th of January for ruling on his bail application.
The accused, who is opposed to the Kwankwassiyya arrangement in the state, was charged with an alleged act of public incitement.
According to the prosecution counsel, Abdulsalam Saleh Danmaidaki, the action of the accused contravened the provisions of Section 144 of the Kano State Penal Code law.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him in the court. His counsel, Ibrahim Abdulahi Chedi then proceeded to pray the court to grant him bail, citing sections 35 (5) and 36 of the Nigeria Constitution.
He assured the court that the accused would not jump bail and would be available throughout the trial period.
Two days ago, the Department of State Services in the state had invited the accused person for an interview over the same issue of alleged public incitement.
In a post on his Facebook Page, the accused had informed had his large followers that it was not the DSS that was dragged him to the magistrate court, but the Kano State Government.
It could be recalled that barely a day after the NNPP’s Supreme Court victory, the former Governor of the state and leader of the New Nigeria People Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso had announced that the state government would certainly revisited the issue of the splitting of the Kano Emirate Council by the Ganduje administration.
Daily Sun reports Kwankwaso’s declaration on the vexed issue had sent panic across the state especially given his reputed influence on the Governor of the state, Abba Kabir Yusuf.
