The Kano State House of Assembly has passed a bill seeking the creation of three second-class emirates in the state.
According to the bill, which was passed on Tuesday, the new emirates would include:
Rano Emirate: Comprising Rano, Bunkure, and Kibya.
Karaye Emirate: Comprising Karaye and Rogo.
Gaya Emirate: Comprising Gaya, Ajingi, and Albasu.
Tuesday’s plenary session was presided over by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore. The motion for the adoption and passage of the bill, after its second and third readings, was moved by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Muhammad Bello Butubutu.
The House had previously conducted the first reading of the bill before going on a long recess.
It could be recalled that the state government had annulled the law establishing the existing emirate structure in the state, which had comprised Kano, Rano, Kibya, Gaya, and Bichi emirates, and had sacked their respective Emirs.
The repealed Emirate Law is the subject of pending litigation at the Kano State High Court and the Federal High Court sitting in Kano.
