Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State, Mr Ali Audu Dabigi, has declared war against bandits. The command arrested 16 suspected bandits and rescued five victims in their hideout along Abuja/Kaduna Expressway.
The CP said: “This year, we have declared war against bandits especially on the Abuja/Kaduna highway. The directive IGP Olukayode Egbetokun gave us has yielded a good result. I visited the Abuja/Kaduna highway with senior police officers. We traversed the ever-busy expressway.
“I encouraged my officers to be on alert and be dedicated to duty. This is just the beginning of many unscheduled routine supervisory patrols. We visited all the flashpoints including Kurmin, Kare, Gidan, Busa and Akibu.
“Also, I extended community policing by having interacting with members of the communities along the expressway. I solicited for their cooperation especially in assisting security agencies with credible information regarding the activities of men of the underworld.
“Operatives attached to Kawo Division blocked a grey Toyota Hilux van with registration number Abuja RBC 90 DC. They rescued four victims from kidnappers. Police engaged and overpowered them. The victims were kidnapped in Abuja. The suspects confessed to have kidnapped the victims in Abuja.
“Police arrested another set of armed robbers terrorising Kaduna axis of the highways. My officers gave them a hot chase and recovered some dangerous weapons from them.
“The police tactical team has started raiding kidnappers’ hideouts along Zaira/Kano Expressway and Zaira/Kastina Expressway. We are not taking chances. The Abuja/Kaduna Expressway is safe.
“There has been constant raiding on the highway. Motorists and passengers are save. Police, army and other security agencies’ presence sent strong signal to bandits to start relocating from the highway.
