In a somber turn of events, the remains of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, are set to be interred today, Friday, March 15, 2024.
The revered monarch, who reigned for two years, passed away at the age of 81 late Thursday evening at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State, following a brief illness.
The burial arrangements were disclosed by the deceased’s younger brother, Kola Balogun, who holds the position of Baba-Kekere Olubadan. According to a statement released by Oladele Ogunsola, the late Oba Balogun’s Personal Assistant (Media), the funeral proceedings will adhere to Islamic rites and will take place at his ancestral home in Aliiwo, Ibadan.
Oba Lekan Balogun, a distinguished figure, had a multifaceted background, boasting a British-trained Ph.D., previous roles as a university lecturer, and a successful career in both corporate and political spheres.
