From Ighomuaye Lucky, Benin
A chieftain of the Edo State Labour Party (LP), Oghogho Okundaye, yesterday, tasked Nigerians to be resilient and not to lose hope in the country but have the confidence of a better tomorrow.
This was contained in a statement personally signed by him and made available to newsmen in Benin City.
He said the lessons from June 12 have taught everybody that irrespective of religion and tribes, Nigerians have a democratic tendency in them and if given the rightful atmosphere, they can confidently elect a leader of their choice, especially in Edo state, come 2024.
Okundaye who said the way the people embraced the “Obidient Movement” in the last election in Nigeria was a testimony that they actually yearn for good governance.
The nationalist urged Nigerians not to be discouraged by what transpired in the just concluded presidential election but to remain focussed and steadfast as all hands must be on the deck to help correct the ills in the electoral process.
The LP stalwart and advocate of the “Obedient Movement” (Okundaye) also used the opportunity to wish Edo State indigenes well as they mark Democracy Day, assuring them that the pains of yesteryears will soon be surmounted.
He enjoined the people of the state irrespective of their senatorial districts to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding and carry out their legitimate duties without fear or favour.
The former youth leader also maintained that the dream of the Edo state they agitated for many years ago would come to full actualization in no distant time especially as the state prepares for a new election next year.
Okundaye also called on those in authority to ensure that appropriate policies that are palatable to Nigerians are implemented to at least, allow the people to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
He also called on the Federal Government to see how to cushion the effects of the removal of the petrol subsidy so that the pains of the people economically and otherwise will be reduced to a greater level.
