American television host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel has had his late-night show suspended indefinitely over comments he made about the shooting of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk.
The United States is still reeling from the death of the popular conservative, with celebrities reacting following the shocking assassination.
Speaking on the suspension of Kimmel’s show, a spokesperson for the Disney-owned network said in a statement, “Jimmy Kimmel Live will be pre-empted indefinitely.”
Kimmel had earlier this week said during his show that the “MAGA gang” was trying to score political points off Kirk’s killing.
In his reaction to the suspension, President Donald Trump stated that the development was “great news for America”.

In his monologue on Monday, Kimmel had said, “The MAGA Gang desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
The popular show host had gone further by criticising flags being flown at half mast in honour of Kirk, while mocking Trump’s response to the shooting.
“This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he calls a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish,” Kimmel said.
Following the announcement of Kimmel’s suspension, Trump penned in a social media post, “The ratings-challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done.”
