W Motors, the official distributor of Jetour in Nigeria, has expressed its commitment to empower buyers in Nigeria with the knowledge to make smarter automotive choices, and not just, purchase vehicles.

The Managing Director of Jetour/W Motors, Toni Jammal, said this in Lagos at the weekend, explaining that there are two categories of Jetour vehicles currently in the Nigerian market. The first consists of officially manufactured Nigeria-specification vehicles designed to suit local motoring conditions and supported by comprehensive after-sales services and warranty.

The second category, according to him, includes vehicles imported through unofficial channels, often built for different markets and lacking proper manufacturer backing.

“We at W Motors are not selling the same vehicles as grey imports built for other markets. We are selling Nigeria-specification vehicles backed by official manufacturer support,” Jammal stated.

W Motors, he explained, is reinforcing the importance of purchasing officially supported Nigeria- specification vehicles, highlighting the long-term value, reliability, and peace of mind that come with official manufacturer backing.

“As the Nigerian automotive market continues to experience an increase in parallel imports, W Motors emphasizes that not all vehicles available in the market are built, configured, or supported for Nigerian driving conditions.”

He, therefore, urged buyers to be properly guided when taking decisions on the choice of vehicles to purchase. He offered very useful tips on the differences between Jetour products

provided by W Motors and the grey imports and highlighted the advantages of patronising only models built for Nigeria.

Engine and cooling system.

According to him, W Motors’ official Nigeria-spec Jetour vehicles are specifically calibrated for high temperatures, heavy traffic such as those experienced in Lagos, and the challenging nature of Nigerian roads.

These vehicles come with enhanced cooling systems that improve long-term engine reliability, an advantage that grey imports often lack.

Jetour vehicles not built for the Nigerian market may experience increased engine stress, cooling inefficiencies, and faster wear over time.

Air conditioning performance Focusing on air-conditioning performance, Jammal noted that W Motors vehicles feature AC systems designed for extreme heat conditions, delivering stronger cooling efficiency during traffic congestion and long-distance travel.

In contrast, grey import versions, often built for milder climates, may struggle under prolonged Nigerian weather conditions.

Software and system compatibility

In terms of software and system compatibility, officially imported Jetour vehicles sold by W Motors come with fully English-supported software systems, stable manufacturer-approved

operating systems, compatibility with official diagnostic tools, and seamless software updates without reset issues.

Grey imports, however, may suffer from using partially Chinese software, face software instability, and have restricted diagnostic compatibility.

Long-term ownership value

While grey market alternatives may appear cheaper initially, buyers often encounter higher maintenance costs, delayed spare parts sourcing, unsupported software issues, reduced resale

confidence, and the absence of proper structural backing in the long term.

Therefore Jammal advised prospective buyers to prioritise long-term value over short-term savings. Checks at the W Motors showroom on Adeyemo Alakija Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, reveal that since its appointment as Jetour’s accredited dealer in Nigeria, W Motors only supplies vehicles directly from the factory, ensuring customers receive genuine, zero-kilometre units that are factory-tested, quality-certified, and approved for export.

These vehicles are specially configured for African and Nigerian conditions, with optimised cooling systems, suspension, and air-conditioning performance tailored to local roads and climate.

Customers who patronise Jetour vehicles sold by W Motors also benefit from extensive benefits, including a seven-year warranty with unlimited mileage, genuine OEM (original equipment manufacturers) spare parts availability, certified technicians, dedicated after-sales support, official diagnostics, software updates, and professional service center support in Lagos.

In contrast, grey imports often come with unclear sourcing, questionable odometer accuracy, no valid manufacturer warranty, and increased risks of overheating, weak suspension, and air-conditioning inefficiencies.

“In fact, the customers are largely on their own,” Jammal said
